About the Charles Drew Memorial Scholarship Foundation
The foundation is a 501 (c) 3 organization that provides scholarship funds to Prince George's County high school students who qualify through a formal application process. The application process is open each year and includes funds for prior Charles Drew recipients who are enrolled in college. The scholarship amounts are $3,000 for high school students entering college and $1,500 for "continuing" students who are seeking follow-on support while currently enrolled in college. Members of the board are also members of the Gamma Pi Chapter of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc., which is also located in Prince George's County, Md.
For more 30 years the Charles Drew fund has been committed to helping the students in Prince George's County receive financial assistance in achieving higher education. In the past we have provided Scholarships to students seeking education after high school, but going forward we want to do more by expanding the Charles Drew brand into other areas that will be of benefit to the citizens of Prince George’s County.
Who is Dr. Charles Drew? First of all, he was a member of Omega Psi Phi. Through his ground breaking discoveries in the medical field and his desire to uplift his community with high aspirations through education Dr. Charles Drew was a discoverer and a lifelong learner as a physician and scientist.
